I hosted special Mother’s Day edition of Monday Makeovers on Access Live (Hollywood) and it was so special giving one lucky mom a head-to-toe makeover.
Meet Emily! We met volunteering for a A Place Called Home’s Prom Day and she booked a style consultation with me. After giving birth and heading back to work, she expressed how much she fell out of her style. I suggested she give me a opportunity to style her for my weekly segment. Representation is important. How often do you see a skinny mom getting a makeover on tv? It was clear she was the perfect candidate for a plus size mom makeover. Being a plus-sized woman with supermodel height is important to show on national tv. Emily was reluctant, but I convinced her to step out of her comfort zone and participate.

STYLE PROBLEM
Like 99% new mom’s (and clients) I’ve interacted with can’t stand their stomachs. Emily’s post-pregnancy style consisted of oversized tunic and blouses to hide her body in baggy/shapeless clothing and dark colors. I wanted to bring a bit of color to her life to stand out and shine.
STYLE SOLUTION
My goal was to focus on styling her assets instead of focusing on body type which often limits your mindset. My plus size mom makeover solution was to define her waist and add color which brings the attention away from her tummy and lengthens her legs. Often times you think hiding your body in shapeless clothing is the answer, but in reality, you’ve just made yourself look bigger.
